The South Australian State Emergency Service (SES) is a volunteer-based organisation that responds to a wide range of emergencies and rescues across the state 24-hours a day, seven days a week, 365-days a year.

Primarily responsible for responding to extreme weather (including storms and extreme heat) and flooding events, the SES also responds to road crash, marine, swiftwater, vertical and confined space rescues.
To provide an emergency response to the communities in this area 24 hours a day, seven days a week we have volunteers based in 67 Units at strategic locations and 6 Community Response Teams. These Community Response Teams help us combat the challenge of servicing some of the remoter areas of the State by providing a first response to incidents while support comes from Units further away.
The SES also cooperates closely with other statutory emergency services and has storm and flood relief as responsibilities in State legislation. As the Hazard Leader and Control Agency for extreme weather in South Australia, the SES aims to increase community awareness and preparedness relating to extreme weather events. A well prepared community is better able to respond to and recover from an emergency.
